Knit a bookmark

The first project. Ten stitches, knit stitches only, and finished in one afternoon — that is the whole point.

You need

• Chunky yarn
• 6 mm needles
• Scissors
• Darning needle

This is what you learn

• Casting on stitches
• Knitting knit stitches
• Casting off stitches

Step 1 – Cast on

Cast on 10 stitches.

Count them together.

Step 2 – Knit

Knit all the stitches.

When you reach the end of the row: turn the work. Knit all the stitches again.

Now you have knitted two rows.

Challenge

Can you knit 20 rows? Every row makes you better.

Step 3 – Cast off

Ask a grown-up for help the first time.

Well done

You have made your first knitting project.
