New to CosyMonday, or new to knitting altogether? Here is the way in — five steps, in the order they actually help.
1 – Find your level
All my patterns are marked with a level, from beginner to easy intermediate. Know where you stand, and you know what to look for when you choose a project.
2 – Choose the right yarn
Mohair, wool or alpaca — the yarn decides both how the garment feels and how it knits up. This page helps you choose right, before you cast on the first stitch.
3 – Learn the words
A pattern is written in its own language. The Knitting ABC explains every word from A to Z, and the knitting illustrations show you the techniques drawn step by step — both good to keep open while you knit.

4 – See the techniques in practice
Stretchy cast-on, raglan decreases, puff sleeves — the techniques used in most of the patterns each have their own video, explained step by step.
5 – Knit your first pattern
Start with something marked beginner. It gives you a sense of mastery before you move on to something with more techniques.
If you get stuck along the way, the rest of Knittipedia is right here — videos, a dictionary, drawings and answers to most things.
