Knit your first jumper

From about age ten. Four pieces in garter stitch, sewn together into a garment — the first proper one.

You need

• Chunky yarn
• 7 mm circular needle
• Darning needle

This is what you learn

• Knitting bigger projects
• Following a pattern
• Finishing a garment

Front

Cast on 40 stitches.

Knit all the stitches until the work measures about 35 cm. Cast off.

Back

Knit the same as the front.

Sleeves

Cast on 20 stitches.

Knit until the sleeve measures 25 cm. Cast off.

Make one more sleeve.

Sewing up

Sew the shoulders together. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the sides together.

Well done

Now you have knitted your first jumper.
