Knit your own bag

From about age eight. Knit stitches only — it is the sewing up that is new here.

You need

• Chunky yarn
• 6 mm needles
• Darning needle

This is what you learn

• Knitting bigger pieces
• Sewing several pieces together
• Making a handle

Part 1 – Front

Cast on 20 stitches.

Knit all the stitches.

When the work measures 18 cm: cast off.

Part 2 – Back

Knit one more piece the same way.

Sewing up

Sew the sides and the bottom together. Leave the top open.

Handle

Cast on 6 stitches.

Work in garter stitch until the strap measures 35 cm. Cast off.

Sew the strap on.

Well done

Now you have made your own bag.
