Anna's Rose Scarf

Creative · Level: Beginner plus

Part of Creative – CosyMonday's collection for those who like to play with colours, textures and leftover yarn. Anna's Rose Scarf is a long, narrow scarf in half fisherman's rib, made up of 27 colour blocks in pink, rust and brown. The blocks are mirrored around the middle, so the neck section lands exactly at the centre back and the two ends finish the same.

Long. Soft. Personal.

How the pattern is built
  • One step per page – made for the phone, no scrolling with yarn in your hands
  • Tick-off boxes you can check as you knit
  • A separate block sheet at the back with all 27 blocks, cm and tick-off boxes – so you can find your place again
  • Cosy Cues with technical tips where they are needed
  • Clickable video links for the techniques
  • A4 print sheet with the whole pattern, and a lined notes page
  • All figures are double-checked
Styling

250 cm is enough to wrap the scarf twice around the neck and still let the ends hang down. It works just as well loose over a coat as snug around the neck with a plain sweater.

Perfect if you want
  • A long scarf with plenty of personality
  • To use up mohair leftovers in one and the same pattern
  • To learn half fisherman's rib knitted flat
  • Bobbles and fringe explained step by step
  • A project you can put down and pick up again

Yarn & equipment

Yarn
Fluff – HipKnitShop, single strand

4 balls Wild Flower
3 balls Rose Garden
2 balls Faery Tale Pink
2 balls Grape Smoothie
2 balls Laughing Leaves
2 balls Chocolate Crush

In total 15 balls of 50 g = 100 m. Wild Flower is multicoloured, and that is what makes the scarf look as if it has more colours than it does. Leftover yarn works well here – use the gauge as your guide.

Needles
Needle 7 mm, preferably a 60 cm circular needle so the weight of the scarf rests on the cable

Notions
Scissors · darning needle · tape measure · a piece of cardboard 18 cm long for the fringe

Gauge

15 stitches = 10 cm in half fisherman's rib on a 7 mm needle, single strand.

All lengths are measured in cm, not in rows – so the row gauge does not matter.

Construction

The scarf is cast on with 20 stitches and knitted flat back and forth in half fisherman's rib, from one end to the other. The 32 cm centre section is worked in garter stitch with four narrow brown stripes and sits at the back of the neck. Four bobble rows with three bobbles each mark the colour changes. The fringe is threaded in at the end.

What you learn
  • Half fisherman's rib knitted flat
  • Colour changes in half fisherman's rib
  • Bobbles over several stitches
  • Transition between half fisherman's rib and garter stitch
  • Fringe threaded in at the end

About the pattern

The blocks are a suggestion, not a rule. Swap the colours, move the bobbles, make the centre section longer – the scarf can take it. The only thing that matters is the mirroring around the middle, so the two ends turn out the same.
