Everglow – The Cardigan

Humankind · Level: Beginner plus

Short, cream-white cardigan in thick mohair. Open at the front, no buttons. The whole body is knitted in half fisherman's rib, and the colours sit at the bottom of the ribbing and at the very ends of the cuffs.

Light. Airy. Sheer against the light.

The story behind the design

Everglow is almost white. That is the whole idea. The colours in the cardigan are where you see them last — at the bottom of the ribbing, at the ends of the cuffs, and in one narrow gold stripe across the body.

Thick mohair on needle 7 gives a garment that hardly weighs anything. Held up to the light the body is sheer, and the half fisherman's rib sits in it like small open cells you only see when the light is right.

The name comes from the Coldplay song Everglow.

Humankind

Everglow belongs to the Humankind series, together with My Favorite Green — same construction, a completely different look.

Construction

The body is knitted bottom-up, back and forth on a circular needle, and is open at the front all the way. The whole body is in half fisherman's rib, from the ribbing all the way to the armhole — only the colours change.

The sleeves are knitted separately in the round and joined to the body. The yoke is decreased with raglan, only on the body and never on the sleeves. Finally the sleeves are gathered into a puff, and the collar is knitted across the whole top.

What you learn

Half fisherman's rib · twisted knit stitch · cardigan opening · raglan decreases on the body only · puff sleeve over two rounds
