Pink Pearl · Puno Edition – The Beanie
Level: Beginner
A soft beanie in stockinette with a deep folded brim, knitted in pink Puno from Rauma Garn. The beads are sewn on by hand at the end, in a free pattern that is never quite the same from beanie to beanie.
Firm. Full. Sprinkled.
Styling
Fold the brim deeper for a close-fitting beanie, or keep it narrower for a looser look. The beads sit low, towards the brim fold, so they show however you fold it.
Perfect if you want
- A beanie with a personal, hand-sewn touch that is never quite the same twice
- A firm, full stitch definition with good warmth
- A project without colour changes or pattern knitting along the way
- Five sizes from toddler to adult
- Two ways to finish the top in the same pattern
What you get
- Digital knitting pattern (PDF) in mobile format
- One step per page with a tick-box
- Cosy Cues with useful technical tips
- Links to help videos where the technique is used
- A4 print sheet and notes page at the back
The story behind the design
The beads were left over from another Christmas, in an old jam jar in the cupboard. Puno knits up firm and full on needle 6, with an even, clear stitch definition. Rosa Sky is closer to coral than to sugar pink, and the warmth of the colour lasts through the whole winter. Instead of knitting the beads in, they are sewn on afterwards – freely, with no pattern to follow. That way no two beanies are the same.

Construction
The beanie is knitted in the round, bottom-up. The ribbing is knitted with twisted knit stitches for a firmer look, then the work is turned inside out, which forms the fold line. Above it you knit stockinette to the height you want, before the top is either drawn together soft and round, or decreased in four clear sections – both finishes are in the pattern. Finally the beads are sewn on by hand in a free pattern.
