The 70's Boho – The Beanie
A Head Full of Dreams · Level: Beginner plus
Part of A Head Full of Dreams – CosyMonday's signature collection of beanies. The 70's Boho is three colours that shouldn't go together, and do anyway: a chocolate brown turn-up brim, deep navy blue and a raspberry red top that glows.
Retro. Graphic. Warm.
Styling
Three clean blocks of colour with no transition make the beanie a statement in itself. Wear it with neutral outerwear and let the colours do the work – or go the opposite way and match the raspberry top with something else red.
Why you will love The 70's Boho
- Finished in an evening or two.
- Mock cables over just three rounds – no cable needle.
- Three colours, three clear blocks, zero guesswork.
- Mohair held double gives fullness without weight.
- The wide turn-up brim stands up on its own.

The story behind the design
The 70's Boho is three colours that shouldn't go together, and do anyway. No transitions, no soft shifts – three clean blocks, like a colour chart from 1974. The contrast is the whole design.
A Head Full of Dreams
A Head Full of Dreams is CosyMonday's signature collection of beanies – inspired by hope, creativity and stories told through colours, textures and moods.
Size
One Size
Length: 31 cm
Width flat: 23 cm
Turn-up: 12 cm
The length is measured from the folded edge upwards, with the turn-up lying on the outside.
Yarn & equipment
Recommended yarn
Yarn held double throughout. Choose one of these:
Tjukk Mohair – Rauma Garn, 50 g = 100 m
Påfugl in Paris – House of Yarn, 50 g = 90 m
Chocolate Crush – 2 balls
Navy – 1 ball
Raspberry – 1 ball
Approx. 270 metres in total, around 150 grams. Chocolate Crush is used for all the ribbing and takes 133 metres on its own – hence two balls.
Needles
Short circular needle 7 mm
Double-pointed needles 7 mm or Magic Loop
Gauge
12 stitches × 17 rounds = 10 × 10 cm on 7 mm needles, with yarn held double.
Construction
The beanie is knitted in the round bottom-up. The wide ribbing is knitted first and folded up at the end along a purl round. From there, mock cables run unbroken through all three colour blocks, and the crown is shaped with even decreases.
What you learn
- Stretchy cast-on
- Twisted knit stitch
- Mock cable without a cable needle
- Using a stitch marker
- Weaving in ends as you go

The colours change sharply – that is the whole point. Feel free to swap them for leftover yarn you have lying around, but keep the three blocks.
