Little Miss Sunshine – The Beanie

A Head Full of Dreams · Level: Beginner plus

The yellow beanie from the collection CosyMonday designed for Odd Molly, made together with Marie Olsson Nylander. Mock cable all the way up, also through the crown, and a wide folded brim that lies double over the ears.

Yellow. Cabled. Full of light.

Styling

Fold the brim narrower for a close fit, wider for more slouch. This yellow does not tolerate competition – let it be the only splash of colour, and keep the rest calm.

The story behind the design

Little Miss Sunshine was made together with Marie Olsson Nylander, for the collection CosyMonday designed for Odd Molly. It is yellow because it is meant to be yellow – not a muted yellow that goes with everything, but the colour you see across the street on a grey Tuesday in November. The cables are made without a cable needle, by lifting one stitch over two, and they continue all the way up to the top instead of giving way to a plain crown.

A Head Full of Dreams

A Head Full of Dreams is a collection inspired by dreams, colour and hope. The designs are made to keep both your head and your thoughts warm – with soft materials, strong colours and a playful look. These are garments that remind you to dream big, create freely and never give up. The beanie series grew out of the collection CosyMonday designed for Odd Molly.

Construction

The beanie is knitted in the round, bottom-up. First ribbing in knit 3 twisted and purl 2, then the work is turned inside out – that is where the fold line forms. Above it you knit mock cable in a four-round repeat, where a yarn over gives back the stitch the cable takes. The cable pattern continues through the whole crown, so the top has the same texture as the rest of the beanie. Finally the ribbing is folded up, and the lowest cables disappear inside the turn-up.

What you learn

  • Twisted knit stitch
  • Mock cable
