Crochet was part of many of the spring 2027 shows. There were crocheted dresses in every length, long and short skirts, tops, sets and accessories. Some pieces were open like lace, others were crocheted so tightly that they covered as much as a woven fabric.
Dresses and skirts
The crocheted dress came in mini, midi and maxi. The open versions were worn over a slip dress or a swimsuit. The skirts were either long and soft or short, often with a top in the same crochet. Isabel Marant showed a crocheted top and a macramé skirt together with swimwear and linen shorts.
Woodstock – The Wrap Skirt is made from a crocheted granny square blanket, with a knitted waistband.
Motifs joined as you go
Large flowers and geometric squares are back, and the granny square is one of them. Many new patterns join the motifs while you crochet, so you don't have to sew everything together at the end. That makes it easier to crochet a shawl or a cardigan from squares.
Crochet on knitted garments
Another direction is to use both techniques in the same garment. A crocheted edge, a cord or a crocheted sleeve adds a detail that is hard to get with needles.
Fix You – The Top has a knitted body, and the sleeves are crocheted last in double crochet (UK) with a 7 mm crochet hook. Strawberry – The Top has a crocheted panel on the sleeve, and Dancing Queen – The Top has a crocheted cord at the neck.
Bags and accessories
Bags, hats and belts are the accessories most often crocheted right now. A bag is also a good place to start if you have never crocheted before, because it doesn't have to fit a body shape.

Colours
The light natural shades keep coming back: cream, ivory, beige and natural brown. Alongside them come clear colours such as pink, orange, yellow, green, blue and red. White and black are used for the more elegant garments.
The yarn
Thicker yarn gives a more sculptural look, while cotton and linen belong to the open summer pieces. Filet crochet in mohair is mentioned as a new combination of technique and yarn.
Did you know …
Irish crochet lace was developed in Ireland in the mid-1800s as a cheaper imitation of the expensive needle lace from Venice. During the Great Famine, nuns in the convents taught girls and women to crochet, and the lace was sold to give families an income. All it took was a crochet hook and a reel of cotton thread.
