Stitch library
Texture patterns and simple lace patterns, each with repeat, chart and written instructions. All are written for knitting in the round. If you knit back and forth, read the wrong-side rows from the left and work the opposite of the symbol.
Read the chart from the bottom up, right to left. The dashed frame is the repeat. See reading patterns and charts.
Garter stitch
Repeat: 1 stitch × 2 rounds
Scarves, edges and ponchos. Lies flat and does not curl.
- Rnd 1: knit.
- Rnd 2: purl.
2 × 2 rib
Repeat: 4 stitches × 1 round
Rib for hats, sleeves and body. Pulls in and gives.
- Rnd 1: *k2, p2*, repeat to end of round.
Moss stitch
Repeat: 2 stitches × 2 rounds
Edges and surfaces with texture. Lies flat. In the US it is called seed stitch.
- Rnd 1: *k1, p1*, repeat to end of round.
- Rnd 2: *p1, k1*, repeat to end of round.
Double moss stitch
Repeat: 2 stitches × 4 rounds
Like moss stitch, but with a larger, calmer texture.
- Rnd 1–2: *k1, p1*, repeat to end of round.
- Rnd 3–4: *p1, k1*, repeat to end of round.
Basketweave
Repeat: 8 stitches × 8 rounds
Blankets, cushions and scarves. Looks woven.
- Rnd 1–4: *k4, p4*, repeat to end of round.
- Rnd 5–8: *p4, k4*, repeat to end of round.
Half brioche
Repeat: 2 stitches × 2 rounds
Sweaters and hats with an airy, thick rib. It comes up in many of my patterns.
- Rnd 1: *k1, p1*, repeat to end of round.
- Rnd 2: *k1b, p1*, repeat to end of round.
Eyelet round
Repeat: 2 stitches. Work the eyelet round once.
For a drawstring at the waist or neck, or as a simple detail.
- Rnd 1: knit.
- Rnd 2: *yo, k2tog*, repeat to end of round.
- Rnd 3: knit.
Scattered eyelets
Repeat: 6 stitches × 4 rounds
Light sweaters and tops. A calm lace pattern if you have never knitted eyelets before.
- Rnd 1: *k4, yo, k2tog*, repeat to end of round.
- Rnd 2: knit.
- Rnd 3: *k1, yo, k2tog, k3*, repeat to end of round.
- Rnd 4: knit.
