What separates a homemade garment from one that looks bought is rarely the stitches. It is the ends. Here are four ways to handle them.
Knitting with several strands
Many of my patterns are knitted with two strands at once, often a mohair together with a wool. This is how you keep them even so neither one pulls tight.
Joining two strands
Perfect in pale, sheer yarn, where an ordinary knot would show straight through.
Knitting the end in as you go
Useful when you are working with a lot of colours. The end is secured while you knit, so you are not left with a hundred ends to weave in at the end.
Weaving in an end invisibly on both sides
For cuffs, high necks and everything else that gets folded or is seen from both sides.
