Part 1 and part 2 were about what keeps coming up this autumn. This one is about what you do with the garment once it is knitted.
1. Mohair against something smooth
Mohair has glow and air. It shows best when it meets a smooth surface: silk, leather, dark denim with a straight leg. Two fuzzy garments on top of each other make the outfit blurry.
Proportions follow the same rule. A wide sweater wants something narrow underneath. Pink & Lilac – The Sweater is wide with puff sleeves, and looks best over straight trousers or a narrow skirt.
2. High neck: let the neck be the jewellery
When the neck reaches the jaw, it needs no competition. Take the jewellery off your neck and wear it in your ears instead. Put your hair up or tuck it back, so the edge of the neck can be seen.
Sky High – The Sweater can be folded or left standing. Folded, the neck becomes softer and lower. Standing, it becomes the whole outfit.
The separate neck is worn over the coat, not under it. Undo the top buttons and let Bloom – My Summer – The Neck sit on the outside, with the flat pieces at the front and back. It comes off in the hallway, like a hat.
3. Red: the whole garment or one thing
Red works in two ways. Either it is the whole garment and everything else stays quiet: Red Mini – The Skirt with a natural white mohair sweater, a white shirt underneath and knitted socks. Or it is one thing in an otherwise neutral outfit: Red – The Beanie with a beige coat is enough.
Red Maxi – The Skirt is long. Wear something short over it, so the skirt gets its full length.
4. Lace: what is underneath becomes part of the garment
Through a lace pattern you see what you wear underneath. Choose it on purpose. A top in the same colour as the sweater turns the pattern into texture. A top in a contrast colour turns it into drawing.
In Summersky – The Sweater the eyelets sit across the chest. Natural white over natural white is quiet. Natural white over black is a completely different sweater.
5. The chunky jacket is the outer layer
A long jacket in wide rib is heavy enough to take the place of a coat in October. Wear it open, over a dress or a thin sweater and narrow trousers. Nothing thick underneath, so the rib hangs straight and the popcorn border shows at the bottom.
A Message – The Long Jacket is the everyday version. The natural white one with gold thread, A Message Snow – The Long Jacket, also handles an evening out.
6. More is more, with one colour in common
A patterned garment carries an outfit on its own. The rest only needs to pick up one colour from it. With Bohemian Rhapsody – The Sweater that could be trousers in the same apricot, or shoes in pink.
If you want pattern on pattern, let the two share at least one colour. Bohemian Flowers – The Mosaic Sweater with a striped skirt in one of the colours from the mosaic is maximal, but not random.
7. The vest: collar on the outside
Over a shirt, the collar should lie on the outside of the vest, and the sleeves can be rolled up once. Over a thin sweater in January, keep the colours close to each other. On its own in May, a vest with a V-neck is a top.
Always Lovable – The Vest is tied with an i-cord belt, so it can be pulled in at the waist over a wide shirt. My Bohemian Me – The Vest has a V-neck and many colours, and only needs a white shirt underneath.
8. Blue and earth colours together
The two colour tracks of the autumn go well together: blue against brown, rust against denim, sage against natural white. Vintage Blue – The Sweater has already made the choice, with sky blue and dark brown in the same pattern. With brown trousers the outfit is done.
Leaves – Short is rust coloured and short, and looks good over high-waisted jeans.
9. The poncho over everything
The poncho was not on the trend lists, but at CosyMonday it is one of the garments there are most of. It goes over what you are already wearing: a narrow sweater, a shirt, a dress. What is underneath should be narrow, so the poncho has the volume to itself.
Adventure of a Lifetime – The Poncho has a hood and is knitted in garter stitch, heavy enough to wear outdoors. The Magic Woods – The Poncho has gold thread and fringes, and turns a black sweater into an evening outfit.
A knitted garment tells you what it needs. Mohair wants something smooth, a high neck wants calm, a pattern wants a colour to answer.
