Knitting 2026: A bit of the fashion picture right now – part 2

Lysegul genser med høy hals og brodert blomsterkrans fra CosyMonday

In the first part we looked at the high neck, red, lace patterns and the chunky jacket. Here are four more things that keep coming up this autumn. As last time, none of the patterns were made to follow a trend. They simply fit in.

9. Blue, from sky to navy

Blue is the colour of the autumn. Not one blue, but the whole range: pale sky, denim, and the dark navy that is almost black in the evening. Blue goes with everything in your wardrobe, and it suits both mohair and smooth wool.

The newest blue in my collection is also one of the oldest. I drew Vintage Blue – The Sweater in the 80s, and now it has been knitted again in sky blue and dark brown. Two colours, upside-down Vs and squares that repeat on the body and sleeves. The yarn is Mitu from Rauma, half wool and half alpaca. The pattern is knitted with two strands at once, see colourwork with two strands.

You will find more blue in A Daydream in Blue, Blue Sky – The Sweater and Blue Eyes – The Sweater, which is knitted in half brioche. If you want to start small, Midnight Blue is a hat in the darkest blue.

10. The vest

The vest is the garment you wear all year. Over a shirt in October, over a thin sweater in January, on its own in May. It is also the quickest garment to finish, because there are no sleeves.

Always Lovable – The Vest is knitted sideways from leftovers and tied with an i-cord belt. The Dandelion – Meadow Edition is striped and has embroidered dandelions. Angel – The Vest is half brioche in alpaca, and Colour Me – The Vest is made for colour.

11. The raglan line as a detail

The simple top-down sweater is back, in stockinette and with raglan. What is new is that the increases are no longer hidden. The raglan line becomes a detail in itself, with eyelets or visible increases that draw a line from the neck down.

More than a hundred of my patterns are built on that technique. In Summersky – The Sweater it is the lace pattern across the chest that shapes the raglan. More on how it is built: raglan and lace pattern.

12. Rust, ochre and sage

Alongside the blue come the warm earth colours: rust, ochre, burgundy and a muted sage green. They are the colours that look best in low autumn light.

Leaves – Short is rust coloured, with raglan, puff sleeves and an embroidered flower wreath. Striped Rust Flow is a striped hat in the same colour range.

Already have the garment?

A trend does not need a new garment. A sweater you already have can get a new neck, a stripe in the colour of the season or some embroidery. See renew your garment and the embroidery school.

The next trend post comes in the spring.
