The knitted dress is one of the clearest trends in the autumn and winter collections for 2026 and 2027. It is easy to put on, and it is warm without being heavy.
Why top-down
All my dresses are knitted top-down. You start at the neck and work your way down. That means you can try the dress on as you go, and see how it fits over the shoulders and bust before you continue. You decide the length yourself at the end. If the yarn is running out, you stop a little earlier.
My favourite
Personally, I am very fond of Bloom – The Golden Hour Dress. I wear it with a leather jacket. I dream of knitting it in brown, and in black too.
The long ones
My Cosy Winter Dress is long, in purple and green mohair, with half brioche, lace and slits.
Upside Down – The Dress is a long striped dress. Up With the Birds – The Dream Dress is long and striped in mohair and alpaca, and also comes in a version with a single strand.
Stripes and colour
Trouble – The Dress is a striped mohair dress. Carolyn – The Dress is from The Carolyn Capsule, and can be knitted in bouclé instead of the suggested yarn. Unsaid – The Dress and Star – The Dress belong here too.
How to wear it
A long knitted dress looks good with tall boots. Over it you can wear a leather jacket, a short jacket or a poncho. A slim knitted dress can also be worn over trousers, like a long sweater.
Did you know …
Before 1916, jersey was a fabric for underwear. That year Coco Chanel used knitted jersey in her collection, and the same autumn Vogue wrote that she was a master of her craft, and that her art lay in jersey. Knitwear went from something you hid to something you showed.
