The designer Sarai Pulido has made a colour chart for autumn with six colours: caramel brown, mustard gold, powder pink, a midnight teal and a vibrant teal, and cherry red. I recognised all six from my own worktable. Here they are, with my garments in each colour.
You will find the colour chart at @saraipulidodesigner on Instagram.
Caramel brown
Warm and deep. Brown has been close to black in the wardrobe for several seasons, and I have written more about it in Brown is the new black.
Gingerbread – The Sweater is striped in brown and caramel in Hip Wool. The Chestnut – The Sweater has three colour blocks and a short puff sleeve. If you want the colour close to your face, Anna’s Hood Scarf – Chestnut Edition and Gingerbread Brown – The Beanie are the quickest ways in.
Mustard gold
A yellow that has taken in a little earth. It is stronger than beige, but calmer than lemon.
Sunspell – The Sweater is a solid yellow wool sweater with a high neck and raglan. Yellow Mellow – The Sweater is big and two-coloured, with puff sleeves and a roll neck. Le Soleil – The Top is yellow mohair with half fisherman's rib in the sleeves. Miss Buttercup – The Sweater is natural white, with a yellow flower border over the hip and a high yellow collar. And if you just want a glimpse of the colour, there is Anastasias Yellow – The Hat.
Powder pink
Soft and light. In mohair, powder pink becomes almost airy.
The Pink Hour – The Poncho is knitted in alpaca, mohair and a gold carry-along thread. My Favorite Pink Colour – The Sweater is a raglan sweater in thick mohair, and a good first sweater. Pink Sky – The Sweater has a lace pattern, puff sleeves and a high neck. For your head there is Bubblegum – The Beanie, with a folded brim and gold thread.
Midnight teal
The deep petrol colour, almost blue-black at dusk.
Deep Petrol – The Sweater is a soft alpaca sweater in deep petrol blue. Arctic Snow – Blue Edition is petrol blue Hip Wool with two light stripes, a wide boat neck and a lace pattern. London – The Cardigan is a short, wide cardigan made from mohair leftovers, where petrol meets shocking pink and grass green.
Vibrant teal
The lighter sister, fresh like turquoise.
Summer Green – The Cardigan is a solid cardigan in half fisherman's rib, knitted in alpaca on a 9 mm needle. Flags – The Poncho also belongs here. And Sky High Blue – The Beanie is turquoise, with a mock cable and a folded brim. It looks lovely with brown and with mustard yellow.
Cherry red
The strongest of the six. Here I have a whole series.
Red Mini – The Skirt is short, in velvet and mohair. Red Maxi – The Skirt is the long one, at 86 cm. Red Glam – The Beanie has gold thread and a folded brim. True Red Bloom – Button Edition and Le Rouge – The Sweater are sweaters where red meets other colours.
How to combine them
The colours on the chart are warm and deep, and they look good next to each other. Caramel brown with vibrant teal. Mustard gold with cherry red. Powder pink with midnight teal. Choose one garment in a strong colour and keep the rest calm, or wear one colour from head to toe.
Right now I am especially fond of the brown, pink and mustard tones.
