The knitting school part 6 – raglan, V-neck and puff sleeves

The construction. Raglan is how 105 of my patterns are built, and the step where most people come to a halt is joining the sleeves to the body.

Raglan decreases on a cardigan

Four diagonal lines meeting at the neck. Put stitch markers in all four before you start decreasing — that is the one thing that decides whether the lines end up the same length.

Joining the sleeves to the body

The step people most often get stuck on. Here you can see how the pieces are put together on one circular needle before the decreasing starts.

V-neck without ribbing

A clean V-neckline that needs no edging. Simpler than it looks, and it gives a quieter look than a ribbed band.

The neatest finish on a puff sleeve

The puff sleeve is the signature in many of my designs. This is how you gather the fullness without the cuff going thick and tight.

All the patterns using these constructions: raglan and puff sleeves.
